The Service

An apostille never travels alone

Nobody needs “an apostille”. They need a specific Italian document that a foreign authority will accept: obtained from the right registry, translated by a court-sworn translator, and stamped by the office that actually has competence over it. Miss one link in that chain and the file bounces back.

This desk handles the entire chain under a single power of attorney. One mandate, one point of contact, one fixed written quote, and a complete bundle you can file with any embassy, employer or foreign administration.

Apostille and sworn translation of Italian documents
Critical · Before you order

Apostille or consular legalization? Getting this wrong costs weeks.

The apostille exists under the 1961 Hague Convention: a single stamp that makes an Italian public document valid in more than 120 member countries, with no embassy involvement. If your destination country is not a member, your document follows the longer consular legalization route instead: authentication in Italy first, then legalization by that country’s diplomatic mission. We check your destination before quoting and tell you upfront which procedure applies, so you never pay for the wrong one.

Why Work With Us

Four reasons clients trust this desk

01

One mandate, full chain

A single power of attorney, signed digitally, covers retrieval from the Italian authority, the sworn translation and the apostille. You never chase two providers or explain your case twice.

02

The right office, first time

Prefettura for administrative documents, Procura della Repubblica for judicial and notarial ones. Filing with the wrong office is the most common cause of delay for people attempting the procedure alone.

03

Court-sworn translation, not agency-certified

Foreign authorities require the traduzione giurata, sworn before an Italian court. Plain or agency-certified translations are routinely rejected, and the rejection arrives after weeks of waiting.

04

Trusted by diplomatic missions

The firm is listed with six diplomatic missions in Italy and holds 53 five-star Google reviews from international clients across four continents.

How we legalize your document

  1. 1

    You write to us

Tell us which document you need, which country will receive it and your deadline. We reply with a fixed written quote and a simple power of attorney to sign digitally.

  2. 2

    We obtain the document

We request the certificate directly from the competent Italian authority and verify every detail: names, dates, transliterations. Errors are corrected before they become delays.

  3. 3

    Sworn translation

Where required, the document is translated and sworn before an Italian court (traduzione giurata), the only form of translation foreign authorities accept for official use.

  4. 4

    Apostille at the competent office

We file the document with the Prefettura or the Procura della Repubblica, whichever holds competence, and collect the apostille. For non-Hague destinations we run the consular legalization route instead.

  5. 5

    Verification and delivery

You receive a scan of the complete bundle for verification, then the originals ship by tracked international courier to any country. Nothing leaves Italy until you confirm.

Competent Authorities

Which office issues your apostille?

In Italy there is no single apostille office. Competence depends on the nature of the document, and each office only stamps its own.

Administrative documents

Prefettura

The Prefettura of the province where the document was issued apostilles administrative documents.

  • Birth, marriage and death certificates
  • Residency and family status records
  • Municipal and registry office documents
  • Academic titles and school certificates
  • Chamber of commerce extracts
Judicial & notarial documents

Procura della Repubblica

The Procura della Repubblica at the competent court apostilles judicial and notarial documents.

  • Criminal record and pending proceedings certificates
  • Court judgments and decrees
  • Notarial deeds and authenticated signatures
  • Powers of attorney executed before a notary
  • Sworn translations (asseverazioni)

Filing with the wrong office is the most common cause of delay for people attempting the procedure alone. We identify the competent authority before we start, so your document is stamped at the first attempt.

FAQ

Questions clients ask before they order

Can you obtain the document, translate it and apostille it in one service?
Yes, that is exactly what this desk does. You sign a single power of attorney and we manage the full chain: retrieval from the Italian authority, sworn translation before the court and apostille at the competent office, delivered together as one ready-to-file bundle. You never coordinate separate providers, and the written quote covers the entire chain, including courier delivery.
Do I need to travel to Italy?
No. The entire procedure is handled remotely. You send a copy of your ID and a signed power of attorney by email, and we act on your behalf before every Italian office involved: registry, court, Prefettura or Procura, and the courier. Most clients complete the whole process without ever setting foot in Italy.
How long does the full process take?
Most complete chains, from certificate request to apostilled originals in your hands, take two to four weeks, depending on the issuing authority, the apostille office workload and your delivery country. If you have a filing deadline, tell us in the first email: urgent timelines can often be accommodated, and we will tell you honestly if a deadline cannot be met before you pay anything.
Which authority issues the apostille in Italy?
It depends on the document. The Prefettura apostilles administrative documents such as civil status certificates and academic titles, while the Procura della Repubblica apostilles judicial and notarial documents, including the criminal record certificate and sworn translations. There is no single national apostille office, and each office only stamps documents within its own competence, which is why filings by non-specialists so often bounce.
What is a sworn translation and why is a regular translation not enough?
A sworn translation (traduzione giurata) is sworn by the translator before an Italian court and carries official legal value, with the translator assuming legal responsibility for its accuracy. Foreign authorities almost always require this form for official filings: a plain or agency-certified translation is routinely rejected, and the rejection typically arrives after your file has already sat in a queue for weeks.
My destination country is not in the Hague Convention. Can you still help?
Yes. For non-member countries the document goes through consular legalization instead of an apostille: authentication by the competent Italian authority first, then legalization by the destination country’s diplomatic mission in Italy. It takes longer and costs more than an apostille, which is exactly why we verify your destination country before quoting, so you never pay for the wrong procedure.
Can you apostille a foreign document for use in Italy?
Not from Italy: an apostille is always issued by the country where the document originates. What we do is guide you precisely on where and how to obtain it in your country, verify that the result will be accepted by the Italian office that needs it, and handle the Italian side of the matter, including the sworn translation into Italian, once the apostilled document arrives.
How do I pay and when?
Work is based on a fixed written quote, paid upfront by Wise or PayPal. There are no hourly fees and no surprises: the price you confirm is the price you pay, including apostille fees, sworn translation and tracked courier delivery. You receive a scan of the complete bundle for verification before the originals ship.
